Every time we move (I think we’ve moved about a 100 times in the past 5 years) I dream about how our next place will look filled with beautiful furniture and the radest decor I’ve always wanted to buy but never pulled the trigger. Of course this has never happened because, well, we’d need about $10,000 to make my dream decorated house come true (okay, a lot more than $10K). So, we end up with a house filled with Ikea furniture that 80% of the population our age also owns. But that’s okay, because there are so many ways to update Ikea products so that they are just as nice (sometimes nicer) as those pieces you’ve always wanted! Here are the 5 most stylish Ikea hacks on the internet today:
These plain white $5 cushions are super easy to add a design or some colour. I’ve seem similar shams go for $50 plus!! Sarah M Dorsey uses stencils, fabric paint, and fabric to update her Ikea cusions in this tutorial. Shannon shows how she used acrylic paint to update her cushions on Burlap and Lace. I’m excited to try this out and I even have some different and rad ideas for these (sharpie? tie dye?)… I’ll keep you updated!
Real Mongolian Lamb Stools can cost in the thousands so these are a super fun alternative. Super easy to DIY and a great way to get the look!! Check out Albertina’s step by step on Mimosa Lane.
Another super easy DIY, Meagan sews tassel trim onto her plain white curtains. I can’t wait to try this with pompom trim!!
There are TONS of Rast Chest updates on the net today but this is my favourite! There are tons of tutorials showing how to update these boring dressers simply using paint and some brass hardware. Naomi from Design Manifest went for an Asian inspired look!I might be obsessed with how this last project turned out. Jessica from The Aestate took a pair of Besta Storage units and made them into this amazing Gaultier inspired console. This one is a little more complicated than the others, but so worth her effort. Yes, I’m in love!
Which is your fave?

So here is my late night creation… I think I could have made this much nicer if I weren’t so impatient but it was incredibly easy to make. I’m sure most of you have seen the crayon art floating around the web (example here)… well I tried something very similar but instead of glueing the crayons to the top of the canvas, I just held them while melting with my blow dryer (which is now stained every colour of the rainbow). Absolutely no method to this madness… just melt away!
Here it is…
Kinda fun, right? Now, where to put it??
Have a fantastic weekend!
After yesterday’s post, I really want to make my own black & white art for my front hallway so I’m looking for some inspiration. Here are some fantastic abstracts that would look spectacular in my pad… like this one…

Three Black Lemons by Donald Sultan, 1st Dibs
Simple and beautiful.
By the way, half way through this post I got completely distracted and made an enormous painting that is quite possibly the FARTHEST thing from black & white… hopefully I still like it in the morning and I’ll post a pic!
Good night peeps!!
What a fantastic weekend! Spent Saturday celebrating my niece’s 2nd birthday. Sunday, Canada Day, was spent at the Kanata fair with the kids daycare buddies, followed by Kim Mitchell and fireworks. Can’t complain with Monday off, spent most of the day playing with the kids and being lazy.
I’ve been wanting to make tassel garland ever since I saw them by Confetti Systems. I’ve finally created one for my daughter’s room. Here’s how…
1. Get your supplies ready. String. Tissue Paper. Rotary Cutter. Self Healing Mat.
2. Fold tissue in half.
3. Cut in half.
4. Start cutting 1/2 inch strips, 1 inch from fold.
5. Open at fold.
6. Start rolling tissue paper at seam.
7. Twist middle until twist measures about 2 inches.
8. Twist center tightly and fold to create a loop.
10. String and hang.
I think it turned out pretty good and Charlie loves it!! This also looks great for party decor. What do you think?
1. Cloudscape iPhone Case, Society6
2. Overdye Agrafena Rug, Rugs USA
3. Splash Pillow, Eskayel
4. Pastel Tie Dye Sunglasses, Topshop
5. Guess What Cutoff Shorts, Nasty Gal
6. Slate Prima Wallpaper, Eskayel
7. Shibori Tie Dye Pillow, Posh Living
8. Paige Verdugo Jeans, Farfetch
Who else is loving the comeback of tie dye? This would make for a fun DIY with the kiddies… messy but fun!
Good day peeps! My sister and I decided our old Minnetonka Moccasins needed a little sprucing up so after typing ‘DIY painted moccasins’ into google, we found this fantastic tutorial by none other than Honestly WTF (love these girls!). We both chose pastel colours (Roni’s look blue in the first picture but they are actually purple) and we love how they turned out… these pictures do not do them justice! If your old moccasins are catching dust in the back of your closets, I suggest bringing them back to life with a little colour!! Here’s our go at it…
